I vividly recall a conversation I had with a work colleague in early 2013 about buying a property in Tooting. He at the time was trying to convince me that it was a good idea because in his opinion Tooting would be the next place on the Northern Line to see a big rise in prices, but after a few brief visits I just couldn’t imagine myself living there. I don’t very much like telling him that he’s right, but on this occasion I have to admit he was! Oh how I wish I could turn back time!
It’s been a busy summer with a trip to Scotland, weekends in Wales and the Euros taking priority over our area search. Come early August I was starting to miss the buzz of London and I was very keen to get the search started again but still there wasn’t a free weekend to search entirely new areas. But a visit by my cousin, who had come to stay with us to celebrate his 21st birthday, prompted action. Having spent last summer living in Russell Square whilst completing an internship he is very familiar with central London so we thought it would be good opportunity to show him London life outside zone 1 and we came up with the idea of a south London beer tour.
As regular visitors to Brockwell Park, Herne Hill is a serious contender for a spot on our shortlist. We love that it’s only a short walk from bohemian Brixton, yet it has its own personality and feels a millions miles away from the madness that lies less than a mile away. Read more
A trip to Ikea is part of the course when you move house and it was on one such trip that I first discovered Streatham. Sitting in traffic on the A23 Streatham seemed drab and in desperate need of a facelift. Step forward a few years and it appears that the much needed injection of life is starting to arrive. Home to the busiest rail interchange in the UK Clapham Junction is a very hectic place. The area takes on several personalities including party animal, foodie and yummy mummy with everyone catered for in ample measures. Easily accessible from both central and suburban London this is a convenient place to meet friends for dinner and drinks or brunch and shopping. Read more
Battersea with its wonderful park is one of our favourite areas to visit when we have friends and family in town. Children appreciate the variety of activities the park has to offer; large open spaces allow them to cycle or run freely, whilst the play park and zoo provide fun for a range of ages. And the many family friendly pubs in the vicinity ensure that the adults are kept entertained also. Read more
